Couple shot at in car

A husband and wife have been shot at twice by a young gunman as they drove along a main road on Teesside.

Police said a silver Volkswagen Golf carrying five or six youths started tailgating the couple’s car before pulling alongside.

One was then spotted hanging out of the window before shooting a small handgun twice, smashing the car’s rear window. The couple, in their 40s, were driving on the B1264 near Yarm heading towards Worsall on Sunday lunchtime. The man managed to bring the car to a stop, but he and his wife were left traumatised, police said.

The VW Golf was a Mark 2 model and had the letter D at the start of its number plate. Anyone who witnessed the incident, at about 2pm, is asked to contact Cleveland Police.
